Don't force CalyxOS on your mom if she is used to jelly splash and Facebook and Google Maps and wants to use those and doesn't care about privacy. If the user wants the Google Play Store, just restore the original OS from the phone vendor. If you look for a "normal android app" you would find on the Play Store, look in the Aurora Store. Both these stores are installed on CalyxOS by default.
To be able to install apps other than free open source apps through the F-Droid store, there is the Aurora store in conjunction with MicroG services to enable you to still use (non-paid) apps from the Play Store, but with more privacy.
So, the entire point of installing CalyxOS on your phone with all the effort that has to be accomplished for this endeavor is to be independent of the Google Play Store. The reason for that is due to privacy concerns with Google products. Degoogled means there are no Google products on board.
